Fernando Germani

1906-1998

Italian virtuoso Fernando Germani made three LP recordings in Selby Abbey which made the organ world famous.

Germani had been the Pope's organist at St Peter's in Rome and was considered one of the outstanding organists of all time. He played piano and violin in public at four years old. At age eight he started taking lessons in composition from Resphigi who encouraged Germani in playing the organ.

Germani was the organist of the Augusteo Symphony Orchestra in Rome. He had the most formidable technique of his generation and will be forever remembered as the fount of enormous musical and technical inspiration.
